5 Tips for Choosing the Best Top Coat for Your Fusion Mineral Paint Project

5 Tips for Choosing the Best Top Coat for Your Fusion Mineral Paint Project

When using Fusion Mineral Paint products, you have a few options for top coats. Here are some things to consider when choosing a top coat:
  1. The type of finish you want: Fusion Mineral Paint offers a few different types of top coats, including a Stain and Finishing Oil, Tough Coat in Matte and Gloss and Furniture Wax. Stain and Finishing Oil in Natural provides a slightly shiny finish. Tough Coat is a durable top coat that is great for high-traffic areas or surfaces that will be frequently used.
  2. The surface you are painting: Different top coats may be better suited for different surfaces. For example, the Tough Coat and Stain and Finishing Oil are great for surfaces that will be subjected to heavy use, such as tabletops or kitchen cabinets. Furniture Wax is a great way to add a slight sheen for medium traffic surfaces.
  3. The look you are trying to achieve: The type of top coat you choose can also affect the overall look of your painted project. For example, the Matte Tough Coat will give your project a more modern, minimalist look while Gloss Tough Coat will add some extra sparkle to your project.

If you are using dark paint colors with Fusion Mineral Paint, the Stain and Finishing Oil in a Natural is a good choice. Stain and Finishing Oil will give your painted project a slightly shiny finish, which can help to enhance the depth and richness of dark paint colors. Stain and Finishing Oil is durable and easy to apply, making it a practical choice for a top coat. It is resistant to chipping and scratching, and it dries to a hard, durable finish.

If you are using light colours with Fusion Mineral paint, the Tough in Matte or Gloss is a great option.  This top coat is extremely durable and is a good choice for surfaces that will be subjected to heavy use, such as tabletops or kitchen cabinets. It provides a slightly shiny finish in Matte and high gloss finish in Gloss.  This adds an extra layer of protection and prevents chipping.

Overall, Fusion Mineral Paint does have a built in top coat. If you are wanting to add an additional topcoat for protection,  this will all depend on your specific needs and preferences. It may be helpful to test out a few different top coats on a small sample piece to see which one you like best before applying it to your entire project.
